Art Progress: Chapter 1

doodling with detail will cause you to lose that first impression“.

Picked from the forgotten shelf is this gem:
Drawn to Life by Walt Stranchfield – edited by Don Hahn.

I’ve read the first 40 pages so far and it has opened my eyes to my mistakes in the basics of drawing. Number 24 in-particular explains “simplicity for the sake of clarity”. It talks about first impressions and how we lose it because of focussing too much on detail.

I realised this has been my biggest problem. I strive to get the whole drawing done at once when i need to simplify. Focusing on the detail i lose that momentum and become overwhelmed…i then give up. I forget drawing is a process, there is a lot to observe. Rough outlines or blocking out the drawing helps to define the shape or pose, once thats down detail can be filled in.

I hope this sticks with me this time around, it is always a challenge even when finally realising something. The importance is never give up. It takes practise, practise, practise.

Let there be Nachos!

Little Parliament, Rainbow Beach QLD Australia

Ingredients: corn nachos, mushroom & lentil mix, guacamole, vegan mozzarella, coconut tzatziki.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Yep, It tasted as good as it looks! Holey moley this was good…

The only downfall of this dish was there wasn’t enough of the mushroom and lentil mix. It was so good! I found it was lost amongst the other ingredients, especially that there were a lot of corn chips.

Although i tend to love coconut based things, the tzatziki was an interesting addition but consistency and texture wise lacked. I appreciated the amount of it (there’s never enough on nachos these days), but it was more on the runny side and maybe the coconut didn’t fit well for me with this dish. As being described as a tzatziki, i would’ve liked to have that cucumber flavour come through as it was only coconut and found it to be too plain.

Otherwise the corn chips were crunchy (even at the bottom), “cheese” was soft and stringy (nicely melted), fresh salsa and guacamole were all great! Plus there was enough for all the corn chips.

This was such a lovely place to eat and the staff were super friendly. Highly recommend :).
